Clearly the largest and most popular event in Des Moines each year is the Iowa State Fair. Actually, it is known far and wide as one of the biggest and best fairs in the entire country. The food is amazing and there’s plenty of great entertainment for people of all ages. It’s definitely a lot of fun, and if you live in Iowa, it’s practically a requirement to go at least one day every year while it’s happening.
Annually the fair attracts more than a million people from around the world. It features the states largest arts show, the largest food department of any state fair, and one of the world’s largest livestock shows. And let’s not forget about the beer! So it’s no surprise that the Iowa State Fair was named in the New York Times best selling travel book “1,000 Places to See Before You Die.”
It has also been recognized by Midwest Living magazine as one of the “Top 30 Things Every Midwesterner Should Experience” and was named the #2 choice for summer fun in America by USA Weekend.
This summer the 2012 Iowa State Fair is going on from August 9-19 so be sure to come to Des Moines and join in the fun once again!
515 Alive – This Weekend!

515 Alive is Iowa’s premier festival for electronic music, and it’s happening this weekend on the streets of Downtown Des Moines. The 515 Alive team will transform the Brenton Skating plaza and surrounding area into one giant block party.
Outdoor clubbing is a phenomenon around the globe and for one night in Des Moines it can be experienced on a truly massive scale. Five Outdoor Stages will feature Electronic, House, Techno, Progressive, Trance, Dubstep, and Club Hits. We bring the music, you bring the vibe.
Discount Pre-Sale tickets are available throughout the week and tickets can also be purchased at the gate. Come celebrate EDM on a night when Des Moines is truly ALIVE!

Race for the Cure Des Moines

Hello my fellow Des Moines peeps. Don’t forget that tomorrow (October 22, 2011) is the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure here in DSM. You can still register at the “late registration” tent on site before the race starts.

The site opens to the public at 7:00 AM and the 5K Run/Walk starts at 9:00 AM.
